Nate Lowman

Nate Lowman (b. 1979) mines images from art history, news, and popular media, transforming these visual signifiers into a diverse body of paintings, sculptures, and installations. His multimedia approach, active since the early 2000s, yields works that are by turns critical, humorous, political, and poetic.

Lowman stages encounters with commonplace, universally recognizable motifs, questioning and revisiting their intended meanings. In doing so, he creates new narratives that challenge perception and invite re-evaluation of cultural symbols, often with a subtle subversion of the original context.

His work has been featured in solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Musée national Eugène Delacroix, Paris; Astrup Fearnley Museet, Oslo; and the Aspen Art Museum, Colorado. Lowman continues to push boundaries, engaging viewers with his distinctive blend of appropriation and artistic transformation.
