Photographer of rural India — collaborative, long-term projects that blur the line between documentation and co-creation.

Gauri Gill photographs communities in rural India with the patience of someone who returns. Her archive spans two decades: thousands of gelatin silver prints from Western Rajasthan, empty classrooms whose walls hold anatomical drawings, grave-sites that anchor collective memory.

The collaborative work shifts the frame entirely. In Fields of Sight, her photographs are hand-inscribed in black paint by Adivasi artist Rajesh Vangad, merging contemporary photography with ancient Warli geometry. In Acts of Appearance, papier-mâché artists of the Kokna and Warli tribes make new masks and wear them through daily village life — fiction folded into the everyday.

The work resists spectacle. Gill's interest is in resilience, humor, and what she calls "the poetry of the quotidian" — the universal arrived at by honoring the local.
