Michele Abeles

Michele Abeles uses photography as a tool for dissecting the body — not as flesh, but as readymade, vessel, site of projection. Her work alternates between the body as object and the body as abstracted, dressed, dispersed across surfaces that refuse single readings.

The photographs are layered, physically and conceptually: UV prints on Plexiglas over dye sublimation on aluminum, acrylic paint acting as redaction and adhesive at once. Street portraits of white-collar men, oblivious and objectified. Bricolage works framed in imitation crocodile skin, embedded with hidden cameras and broken mirror.

Her practice orbits concepts of finitude, escape, and the figure as both code and clock. The work is anonymous, deliberate, and preoccupied with the mechanics of looking — who holds the camera, who becomes the vector.
