Edi Rama creates stream-of-consciousness drawings, often made during his political work as Prime Minister of Albania, exploring the necessity of spontaneous mark-making.

Edi Rama (b. 1964) is known for his unique artistic practice alongside his prominent political career, serving as Prime Minister of Albania since 2013. A former professor of painting, Rama began his stream-of-consciousness drawings not from an artistic impulse, but from a sense of dislocation during his demanding work as Minister of Culture.

He describes his hand drawing almost autonomously during meetings and phone calls, realizing these spontaneous marks were not a diversion but an "elucidatory necessity." These abstract, often untitled works reveal a private world of form and gesture emerging from the public sphere of governance.

Rama's work has garnered international recognition, appearing in major exhibitions such as the São Paulo Biennial, the Centre Pompidou, the New Museum, and the Venice Biennial. His practice offers a compelling dialogue between the demands of public service and the inherent human need for creative expression.
