Charlotte Edey
Mixed-media artist layering pastel, embroidery, and beadwork into dreamlike architectures of the domestic and bodily interior.
Charlotte Edey works from London, building surfaces that shimmer and shift — pastel, embroidery, beadwork, stained glass, and wood assembled into hybrid compositions that move between the bodily and the domestic. The work mines the uncanny overlap between ourselves and our built environment, pulling viewers through spatial and psychological labyrinths that are immersive and illusive.
Recent exhibitions anchor around frameworks like the labyrinth in Corner/Fold (2026), where circular motifs, spirals, and apertures emphasize return rather than resolution. Historically gendered mediums — embroidery, weaving — become vehicles for reconciling the metaphysical and material, the internal and external.
She has shown at James Cohan, Anat Ebgi, FLAG Art Foundation, and Hauser & Wirth, among others. The practice is rooted in magical realism as an aesthetic device, rearticulated through craft and light.
