Maker of *Soundsuits* — wearable sculptures that begin as armour and end as ceremony.
Nick Cave's *Soundsuits* are full-body sculptural garments built from sequins, hair, twigs, beads, buttons, and cast-off domestic objects — the small archaeology of a life, sewn into something that walks.
The first was made in 1992, a response to the beating of Rodney King: a suit of twigs that hid the body and announced it at once. Three decades later, the suits have become a vocabulary — danced in films, shown in museums, paraded through public space.
He teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The studio is large. The materials keep coming.
