Xiaowei R. Wang

Xiaowei R. Wang works between writing and making — books, sculpture, textiles, and the kind of speculative fiction that doubles as research. The practice circles a set of questions about technology, racial capitalism, and care, following them from Chinese villages to California studios.

Their book Blockchain Chicken Farm was selected for the National Book Foundation Science and Literature Award Program. The current project, Great is The Matter of Life and Death, traces how technology has reshaped our understanding of care across three turning points in the twentieth century.

Work has been shown at SFMoMA, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, and elsewhere. They teach, write, and maintain a studio practice in Berkeley.
