Richard Mosse
Richard Mosse employs specialized photographic and moving image technologies to document urgent, often overlooked humanitarian and environmental crises.
Richard Mosse extends the language of documentary photography, using aesthetic power and highly collaborative, immersive forms to illuminate urgent, often unseen stories. He frequently integrates specialized imaging technologies to embed invisible aspects of historically significant subjects within his work.
His practice meticulously documents a range of critical global issues, from environmental devastation in the Amazon and mass migration across continents to conflict over rare earth minerals in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the missing persons crisis in post-war Balkan nations.
Mosse's significant works include the immersive video installation *Broken Spectre* (2022), which explores deforestation in the Amazon, and *Incoming* (2017), a video artwork on mass migration that earned him the Prix Pictet. He also received a Guggenheim Fellowship for *Infra* (2012), documenting conflict in the DRC, and the Deutsche Börse Photographic Award for *The Enclave*, an immersive 16mm film exhibited at the Venice Biennale.
