JR
A globally recognized artist whose large-scale photographic interventions and murals foster civic discourse and address pressing socio-political issues.
JR's practice is defined by its communal and collaborative nature, promoting civic discourse through monumental photographic interventions and digitally collaged murals. He employs photographs, films, videos, and other multimedia works to engage with socio-economic and political themes, creating what he terms "infiltrating art" that reaches audiences far beyond traditional museum walls.
His work spans the globe, from the streets of Paris to the favelas of Brazil and the US-Mexico border. A notable initiative, the Inside Out project, launched in 2011, has enabled over 500,000 people worldwide to contribute their photographic portraits, which JR's team prints as large black-and-white posters for public display. He has also directed acclaimed films, including the Academy Award-nominated feature documentary _Faces Places_ (2017), co-directed with Agnès Varda.
JR's collaborations extend to major publications, such as his work with TIME magazine on _The Gun Chronicles: A Story of America_ (2018) and _The Resilience of Ukraine_ (2022). His impactful installations and exhibitions have been showcased in prestigious institutions worldwide, including the Centre Pompidou, the Louvre, the Brooklyn Museum, SFMOMA, and Kunsthalle München.
