Rachel Khedoori

Rachel Khedoori, an Australia-born, Zurich-based artist, poses provocative phenomenological questions through her work, which seamlessly merges installation, sculpture, film, and photography. She gained international recognition with her first comprehensive solo exhibitions at Kunsthalle Basel and Kunstverein Braunschweig in 2001.

Khedoori is renowned for reinterpreting the architecture of domestic spaces. Her installations often reconstruct rooms, challenging viewers' perceptual experience by interweaving mirrors, films, and scale models. Though her work is void of figures, the viewer's physical presence assumes the role of the subject.

Her practice employs the cinematic apparatus as a sculptural form, like the 35mm film projector, emphasizing tensions between the physical environment and the illusory realm of film. This conflates reality and representation, suggesting their distinctions are obscured and challenging the instability of memory and imagination.
