Katie Paterson
Conceptual artist staging poetic encounters between human attention and geological time, using glass, light, fossils, and cosmic data.
Katie Paterson works at the intersection of art, science, and deep time. Her projects — a necklace of 170 fossils spanning geological epochs, a lightbulb calibrated to moonlight wavelengths, a map of 27,000 dead stars — collapse the distance between the human scale and the edges of the cosmos.
She collaborates with astrophysicists, foresters, and researchers across disciplines, translating phenomena measured in billions of years into intimate, minimalist forms. The work is rigorous, romantic, and patient — a century-long library commission, a lifelong series of sentences cast in silver.
Born in Glasgow, trained at Edinburgh College of Art and the Slade, she now works from Fife. The studio is a staging ground for long investigations; the exhibitions, invitations to look farther.
