Sculptor and glassblower transforming ideas from astronomy, architecture, and music theory into reflective assemblages.

Josiah McElheny works with glass the way a cosmologist works with light — as a medium for revealing what lies between object and observer. His sculptures combine hand-blown glass, mirror, and steel into installations that evoke museum displays, celestial models, and the unsettled territory where looking becomes subject.

Trained as a glassblower, he brings technical rigor to conceptual territory, mining the history of modernism, ornament, and scientific inquiry. The work has appeared at MoMA, LACMA, the Whitechapel, and the Reina Sofía — crystalline forms that refuse to settle into decoration or pure theory.

He lives and works in New York, where the studio doubles as a laboratory for testing what happens when precision meets speculation.
