Painter and textile scholar whose works compress centuries of fabric, folklore, and pattern into intimate acts of repetition and color.

Isabella Ducrot paints with pencil, pastel, ink, and watercolor on rare papers, drawing from a decades-long collection of antique textiles sourced across Asia and Eastern Europe. The fabrics — Ottoman, Tibetan, Indian, Chinese — are studied, catalogued, and transformed into a visual language of pattern, repetition, and tender gesture.

Her recent work divides into two modes: large-scale installations of pattern and color, and intimate figurative works she calls 'tendernesses' — embracing figures rendered with the softness of touch. Both emerge from the same conviction: textiles are an art form, and weaving is fundamentally human.

She has shown at Le Consortium, Sadie Coles, and Petzel, and her work was featured in the Dior Haute Couture runway at the Musée Rodin. She lives and works in Rome, where her studio holds a library of cloth.
