Doug Aitken

Doug Aitken works across video, sculpture, architecture, sound, and photography — each medium chosen to amplify the subject, not the other way around. The work traffics in motion and multiplicity: multichannel projections, mirrored surfaces, sites reimagined as narrative mazes.

His exhibitions scale from a single photograph to vast architectural interventions. The Golden Lion at the 1999 Venice Biennale arrived early; the projects since have ranged across MoMA, the Hirshhorn, Serpentine, and beyond.

He lives and works in Los Angeles, where the studio operates less as a fixed address than as a node in an expanded field of post-studio possibility.
